Dyslexia affects thousands of students in French universities. This handicap relates to the ease and ability of individuals to read and write, thus constituting an obstacle - but not at all a limit - to their ability to learn in a situation. The higher education teacher can easily participate in the support of dyslexic, on condition of knowing better the nature of this handicap and the various means of support of this disorder.

In our course "Dyslexic students in my lecture hall: Understanding and helping", we want to familiarize you with dyslexia, its medico-social management and the effects that this disorder can have on university life.

We will look at the cognitive processes at play in dyslexia and its impact on academic work and learning. We will describe the different speech therapy and neuro-psychological assessment tests that allow the clinician to make a diagnosis and characterize the profile of each individual; this step is essential so that the student can better understand his disorder and put in place the necessary for his own success. We will share with you studies on adults with dyslexia, and more specifically on students with dyslexia. After a discussion with support professionals from university services to describe the aids that are available to you and your students, we will offer you some keys to adapt your teaching to this invisible handicap.
