The announcement was made by Emmanuel Macron during his official speech on March 31: all schools in mainland France – nurseries, schools, colleges and high schools – will have to close from Tuesday April 6. In detail, the students will have distance lessons during the week of April and then will leave together – all areas combined – on spring vacation for two weeks. On April 26, primary and nursery schools will be able to reopen their doors, before colleges and high schools on May 3.

However, an exception will be made, as in spring 2020, for the children of nursing staff and for other professions deemed essential. They can still be accommodated in schools. Children with disabilities are also concerned.

Partial activity for private sector employees

Employees under private law, forced to keep their child (ren) under 16 or disabled, can be placed in partial activity, declared by their employer and be compensated for this. For this, both parents must be unable to telework.
