By 2050, Africa's urban population will be 1,5 billion. This strong growth requires a transformation of cities to meet the needs of all city dwellers and ensure the development of African societies. At the heart of this transformation, in Africa perhaps more than elsewhere, mobility plays a key role, whether to reach the market, the place of employment or to visit relatives.

Today, most of this mobility is carried out on foot or by traditional modes of transport (in sub-Saharan Africa in particular). To meet the increasing needs, and build more sustainable and inclusive cities, large metropolises are acquiring mass transport systems, such as the BRT, the tram or even the metro.

However, the implementation of these projects is based on a prior understanding of the specificities of mobility in African cities, on the construction of a long-term vision and solid governance and financing models. It is these different elements that will be presented in this Clom (open and massive online course) which is aimed at actors involved in urban transport projects on the African continent, and more generally at all those who are curious about the transformations in the African continent. work in these metropolises.

This Clom is the result of a partnership approach between two institutions specializing in urban transport issues in southern cities, namely the French Development Agency (AFD) through its Campus (AFD - Cam), and the Cooperation for the Development and Improvement of Urban Transport (CODATU), and two Operators of the Francophonie, the Senghor University whose mission is to train executives able to meet the challenges of sustainable development in Africa and the University Agency of La Francophonie (AUF), the world's leading university network. Mobility and urban transport specialists have been mobilized to complete the Clom teaching team and provide exhaustive expertise on the subjects addressed. The partners would like to thank in particular the speakers from the following institutions and companies: the Agence Urbaine de Lyon, the CEREMA, the Facilitateur de Mobilités and Transitec.
