By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • show the central place of soils and their agricultural or forestry uses on the climate.
  • support and develop forms of agriculture that can meet the challenges of climate change and food security (from an operational point of view).

Description

The roles of agriculture and forestry in climate change are multiple. They concern several actors and can be treated at several scales and by different scientific disciplines.

The “Soil and climate” MOOC wishes to explain this complexity and in particular the role played by soils. If we hear more and more “Soil carbon sequestration is a way to mitigate and adapt to climate change”, it is necessary to understand:

  • why and to what extent this statement is true
  • how storing soil carbon mitigates climate change and affects soil and ecosystem functioning
  • what are the processes involved and how can we play on these processes
  • what are the risks, obstacles and levers for action to develop a strategy aimed at…
