Your young worker under the age of 18 occupies a specific position in the company.

He holds an indefinite employment contract. He has no professional experience in your line of business.

And he is neither a trainee nor an apprentice.

Yes, in the absence of more favorable contractual provisions, his remuneration may be lower than the minimum wage. But beware, this is very framed by the Labor Code.

You can practice the following deductions on the minimum wage:

before 17 years old: 20%; from 17 to 18 years: 10%.

The 2021 minimum wage on January 1 is set at 10,25 euros gross per hour, i.e. a minimum minimum wage reduced by:

8,20 euros for young people under 17; 9,23 euros for young people aged 17 to 18.

The allowance ceases to be applicable when the young worker has at least 6 months of professional practice in the branch of activity to which he belongs (Labor Code, art. D. 3231-3).
