The objective of this MOOC is to simply address the fundamental notions of criminal procedure.

We are going to walk with the criminal trial by focusing on the way in which the offenses are noted, their perpetrators sought, the evidence of their possible guilt collected, finally the rules which govern their prosecution and their judgment.

This will lead us to study the role of the investigation services and the legal framework of their interventions, the judicial authorities under whose authority they act, the place and the respective rights of the parties to the procedure.

We will then see how the courts are organized and the place of evidence in the trial.

We will start from the main principles that structure criminal procedure and, as we develop, we will dwell on a certain number of themes, often mistreated when they are mentioned in the media: prescription, the rights of the defence, the presumption of innocence, police custody, intimate conviction, identity checks, pre-trial detention, and others….
