When you have worked in a company for several years, you have inevitably accumulated important expertise for its development. Think now is the time to take advantage of a pay raise? After all, you have earned it. To do this, you need to apply for an increase from your employer. Here are some tips for your efforts as well as examples of letters asking for a salary increase.

What is employee compensation?

When a person starts working in a company, each of the parties signs a contract in which they agree to all the clauses to be observed during the working period. The contract also mentions the remuneration of the employee. The latter is considered as consideration for the services offered by the employee for the benefit of the employer.

It is important to know that compensation is negotiated freely between the employee and his employee, while respecting the Labor Code and collective agreements. It must therefore not be lower than the legal minimum wage. However, remuneration does not only refer to the base salary, but also to fixed or variable bonuses or any other benefit in the form of a salary.

Remuneration is collected each month in accordance with Article L3242-1 of the Labor Code. Be aware, however, that you are in a good position to trigger a request for a raise in the event that you have met or even exceeded your goals and your job is more than satisfactory. This is exactly when you can gain the advantage and place your claim.

The request for an increase is also made in certain cases, after obtaining a promotion, when the salary has not been increased. It is also possible that your compensation is lower than that which generally applies for a position similar to the one you currently hold. On the other hand, avoid sending a request during a period when the company is experiencing economic difficulties.

How to ask for a salary increase?

You know your reasons for asking for a raise, so all you have to do is take action. Keep in mind that you will only have a favorable response if the following conditions are met: good performance, achievement of objectives, favorable financial condition of the company, existence of contractual arrangements.

However, contrary to popular belief, the demand for a salary increase requires minimal preparation. It is important to gather a whole set of good arguments in order to convince the employer. Recall and specify all your results and put them forward.

Your employer may also give you several tasks that are well beyond the limits of your position. Know that this is a sign of trust and take the opportunity to talk to your employer about it. Consider showing how important your role in the business is.
