Depending on the company and the professional context, it may be more or less difficult to request a leave. However, all companies require a written request for any leave taken: it is therefore a necessary step. Might as well do it well! Here are a few tips.

What to do to request a leave

When you request leave by email, it is important to clearly specify the date of the period concerned, so that there is no ambiguity. If the period includes half-days, make it clear so that your employer does not wait for your return in the morning when you only come back in the afternoon, for example!

You must remain polite and cordial, of course, and remain open to discussion in case the leave intervenes in a delicate period (possibility of telecommuting, appointment of a colleague to replace you ...).

What not to do to request leave

Don't give the impression of imposing the date: remember that this is a request leave, you will be supposed to work until you have the validation of your superior.

Another pitfall: make an email with only one sentence announcing only the period of the desired leave. The leave must be justified at a minimum, especially if it is a special leave such as maternity or sickness leave.

Email template for a leave request

Here is a model of email to make your request for leave in due form, taking the example of an employee in the communication.
