The "victim" is a founding value of Western culture. At the same time, the victim is part of our daily life through the media and our discussions when the tragic news challenges and upsets our certainties. However, its scientific approach is relatively recent. This online course invites participants to put the concept of "victim" into perspective through various theoretical and scientific contributions. This course proposes, first of all, to analyze according to a socio-historical approach the contours of the concept of victim which define the perception that we have of it today. Secondly, this course deals with the various forms of victimization from a criminological and psycho-medico-legal perspective, the issue of psychological trauma and the institutional and therapeutic means to come to the aid of victims.

It offers a detailed analysis of the concepts and key notions of victimology. It is also the occasion to understand the mechanisms of assistance to the victims which are set up in the French-speaking countries (Belgian, French, Swiss and Canadian).
