Master advanced search in Gmail

Gmail's advanced search feature is a powerful tool that lets you quickly find your important emails using specific criteria. Here's how to use advanced search to find emails in Gmail:

Go to advanced search

  1. Open your Gmail inbox.
  2. Click the arrow to the right of the search bar at the top of the page to open the advanced search window.

Use search criteria

In the advanced search window, you can use different criteria to refine your search:

  • of: Find emails sent by a specific email address.
  • To: Find emails sent to a specific email address.
  • subject: Look for emails that contain a specific word or phrase in the subject.
  • Contains the words: Look for emails containing specific keywords in the message body.
  • Does not contain : Look for emails that don't include certain keywords.
  • Date: Find emails sent or received on a specific date or within a specific time period.
  • Size allowed: Look for emails that are larger or smaller than a certain value.
  • Attachments : Look for emails with attachments.
  • Wording : Search for emails associated with a specific label.

Start a reseach

  1. Fill in the desired search criteria and click “Search” at the bottom of the window.
  2. Gmail will display emails that match your search criteria.
